19.473 members of RS Army and Police took part in events in Srebrenica
SARAJEVO, October 9 (FENA) – The Srebrenica Working Group has established that 19.473 members of the RS Army, Ministry of Defence and Ministry of Interior, out of a total number of 25.093 members of these formations, took place in the events in Srebrenica.

243 members of the civil defence and a number of drivers have been also included in the number of participants in these horrific events.

The Working Group has established that the crimes were also perpetrated by members of special police forces from Serbia “Scorpions”, but also numerous other special police units from Serbia, such as the “Red Berets” that were under the command of Vasilije Mijovic and members of 20 organisational units from the Drina Corps and other military formations.

Srebrenica Working Group member Smail Cekic presented these findings from the Working Group’s Final Report to members of the “Srebrenica and Zepa Mothers” Association in Sarajevo on Saturday.

Cekic stressed that the “Scorpions” were not a paramilitary formation, but a regular special unit deployed by the then regime in Belgrade.

Latest information from the documents of the Drina Corps, which the ICTY was able to reach, have so far not been used in judicial processes.

“It was so far unknown that on July 14 1995 one military unit together with the police captured and executed 1.000-1.500 Muslim civilians and soldiers in the area of Pobude and Konjevic Polje”, Cekic said.

The Working Group’s report also provides information on persons who were involved in the events in Srebrenica and are today participating in BiH, entity or municipal authorities.

The list of participants in the crimes is Srebrenica is still not final. The report includes an amendment on several thousand perpetrators whose names appear twice, but with different information on their dates of birth or other details, and it is therefore still impossible to definitely say if these are the same people or two different people with different personal information.

“There can be no more doubt that foreign nationals, including volunteers and current members of the Serbia-Montenegro Army, then Yugoslavia, were among the participants in the Srebrenica events”, Cekic said.

He also talked about the difficulties which the Srebrenica Working Group faced while searching for information from competent RS ministries, especially the Ministry of Defence.

“Srebrenica and Zepa Mothers” Association President Kada Hotic said that the BiH judiciary now needs to act. She expressed fear that the victims of Srebrenica will “fail” if the judiciary does not do its job right.

Srebrenica Intellectuals’ Caucus President Ilijas Pilav said that follwing this report the survivors of Srebrenica are only now on the verge of truth.

“The high number of perpetrators does not indicate individual, but collective responsibility. This collective is the RS, built on crimes and bloody foundations. It needs to be dismantled”, Pilav said.
